The same chaps behind 'Dockyard', 'Liquorice' and 'Guilty By Association' have filed a license application to open up a new bar on Stevenson square under the name of 'Toyko Joes'. If all were to go through as planned, the bar would live in the basement space underneath 'Ply', the beer'n'pizza joint on Lever St.
Of course, nothing is set in stone, but if this comes into fruition, Mancunians can experience a whole new world of exotic alcohol. If you're wondering what a Japanese whiskey bar entails, you can expect to be served Sake - a Japanese alcoholic drink made of fermented rice; Shochu - a low-calorie distilled beverage produced from rice, potato or barley; and Umeshu - a Japanese liqueur made from steeping ume fruits (an indigenous plum-apricot) in Shochu and sugar. Lesson over, Konnichiwa.
