Emerging from the shadows of the first ceasefire, Thompsons was Belfast’s first purpose built club aimed at promoting the many genres of dance music on a weekly basis.

Over the years the venue has hosted an international array of DJ's, radio and record label showcases in addition to providing a platform for the nation’s homegrown talent. Representing the full spectrum of contemporary dance music, Thompsons has witnessed exclusive appearances from legendary American Hip Hop turntablists Jazzy Jeff, Cash Money and Freddy Fresh. House music maestros Francois K, Roger Sanchez, Tony Humphries and Deadmau5 have performed seminal sets at the club whilst Techno kingpin Kevin Saunderson and Drum & Bass don LTJ Bukem’s specialist styles ensured all bases were covered. In addition to record label events from Defected, CR2, Hed Kandi, Def Jam, Toolroom & Subliminal, Radio showcases from Radio 1, 1Xtra, Kiss 100 & Galaxy, Thompsons have had thousands of DJ's play at club to capacity crowds, seven nights a week.
