But there is a real gem in this town tucked away in a romantic basement part of an old townhouse simply called The Wine Bar. Don't go thinking it is just a wine bar as it is a fantastic little restaurant too. The menu is well crafted and suitably minimal with an excellent range of choice and the food is of a very high standard and quite delicious. I had vegetarian fajitas which were lovely and very generous in portion size. I was really happily surprised by the thought that has gone into the menu and would have liked to try other things so I must return. The decor is charming and subtle, creating an intimate and friendly atmosphere and the host and hostess really welcoming and engaging. I was impressed with the wine list and the quality of the Albarino which we had. I would seriously recommend a visit, though phone ahead as they are very busy. A real gem if you are visiting the area or staying in Herne Bay.
