I went to the pavilion by myself to join around 15 of my friends who had reserved a table and who had been there for lunch and to watch the rugby match. Upon entering I was abruptly told they were full to capacity, which is understandable wit...h it being st Patrick's day and the rugby being on. I then explained that I was the only one coming in and my party were all upstairs, had booked a table and I was just going to join them. He still rudely replied 'Everyone says they have a table, we are full' Bearing in mind the match is going to be over in 5 minutes and a load of customers will consequently be leaving! So at that point I was standing there, and unless I wanted to tear my boyfriend and all our friends away from watching the match, I would then have to walk up and down the Ormeau Road trying to find somewhere else to sit by myself for the rest of the night, as I feared with us being quite a big group that we wouldn't get in elsewhere at at that time of day. Meanwhile, in between this, 2 people left while I was standing there, to which, of course with amazing number crunching skills anyone would conclude that they would now not be at full to capacity. So I kindly asked if I could now go upstairs as people had just left. And amazingly, wouldn't you know it, the answer was still the same. So obviously taking a very chauvinistic approach of 'when a man says no he means no' and it was not really about the numbers. Needless to say our whole party left to spend their time and money elsewhere, and walked across the road to the Northern Lights Bar where the tail end of the match was being played and we got a much warmer reception. I can understand that places will get busy and there will not always be space, but the stubborn attitude of being prepared to lose 15 customers over not letting 1 in, when there was clearly space is what got me the most. First time there, will never be back and neither will any of our party.
