Built in the 1920s, it had a starring role in the 2002 film 24 Hour Party People, and has seen a whole host of famous artists treading the boards of the theatre-style stage over the years, from The Beatles to Arctic Monkeys. The Ritz still hosts a great variety of live bands as well as regular club nights featuring a combination of commercial club bangers in the main room and old school garage, hip hop and R’n’B in the more chilled out Room 2.

While the live events attract ageing rockers, indie-wannabes and teen girls depending on the act, GOGO Saturdays (chart favourites and weekend classics) and Propaganda Fridays (indie) are very much student staples. Drinks change price depending on the event - so while at a live gig you could be paying upwards of £3.50 for a pint, club event prices are more like a student-friendly £1.50 for vodka and mixer / £1.90 for Carlsberg and VS bottles. Whatever night you go though, the club’s famous springy dance floor and first floor balcony make for a fab night of fun!
