Tramlines Festival 2021 Preview
There’s been a lot of… cancelled plans recently. We’ve all come to terms with it now, but let’s face it, it’s been a bit of a bummer.
However, none of that has been a problem for Tramlines 2021. It’s secured a spot of the governments’ coveted ERP pilot scheme! Yep, you heard that right; Tramlines is set to go ahead at *full capacity* at the end of this month.
Nestled amid the beautiful, rolling landscape of Hillsborough Park in south Yorkshire, Tramlines has been confirmed for the weekend of the 23rd to the 25th of July. Tramlines will be bringing you incredible sets from headliners The Streets, Royal Blood, and Richard Ashcroft. You can also expect the likes of Little Simz, The Kooks, and Jake Bugg, to take to the stage for this three-dayer!
Mike Skinner-fronted alt-hip-hop group The Streets have been around since their song Has It Come to This? reached No.18 on the UK singles list in the early 00s. They’ve been laying down banger after banger ever since. In the early part of 2020, Skinner released two new tracks: Call My Phone Thinking I'm Doing Nothing Better featuring Tame Impala and I Wish You Loved You As Much As You Love Him with Greentea Peng and Donae’o. These songs have formed the backbone of The Streets’ 2020 mixtape, None Of Us Are Getting Out Of This Life Alive.
Ben Thatcher met guitarist Mike Kerr as teenagers in 2005 and have since gone on to form Royal Blood. In autumn 2020, Thatcher and Kerr released Trouble’s Coming as the lead single from their next album. In early 2021, they revealed a second single, Typhoons, plus confirmed that would be the name of their third album, arriving on 30 April 2021. Royal Blood have built a reputation for delivering high-energy, raucous live shows, so we can’t wait to see what they have up their sleeve!
Richard Ashcroft is best known as the lead singer of The Verve. He’s a legend. After a six-year absence, Ashcroft returned in 2016 with his fourth solo album These People. In 2018, Ashcroft revealed his fifth solo album Natural Rebel and supported it with a run of shows across the UK. The following year he was awarded his second Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music.

If that’s not enough for you, they’ll also be an incredible line-up on the comedy stage, with Joel Dommett, Shappi Khorsandi, Milton Jones, and (my favourite) Ivo Graham performing. They’ll also be plenty of delicious food and craft beer around!
To gain entry, ticketholders must provide a negative COVID test result from a lateral flow test taken within the previous 48 hours, or proof of full vaccination with the second dose having been received at least 14 days prior to the first day of attending the festival.
Tramlines Operations Director Timm Cleasby said: “We are absolutely delighted to be able to confirm that Tramlines 2021 is going ahead, having accepted the government’s invitation to join the Events Research Programme. This means we have a proven framework to follow, which at previous events has shown that festivals can be enjoyed at no more risk than other activities.
