With so much negativity going around – we want to share a dose of happiness back into your life. That’s why we’ve rounded up some of the good things going on in the industry. After all, every day is one step closer to the clubs re-opening.
Last weekend, DJ EZ hosted a 24-hour live stream for Defected Records – raising money for the mental health charity, Mind. The Just Giving page exceeded its £5000 target and currently sits at £88,930. When donations reached £41,000, Defected even decided to double it.
Producer Danny L Harle has been working on a new virtual clubbing experience and album, Harlecore. Both will launch on February 26th along with “a few surprises along the way”, according to his Instagram. Residents include MC Boing, DJ Mayhem, DJ Ocean and, of course, DJ Danny himself.
Glitterbox is releasing their debut documentary, Where Love Lies, in March. The feature film focuses on music’s positive influence on the community and self-expression. With contributors like Honey Dijon, Billy Porter and Kiddy Smile – it’s one to look forward to. It will be available to watch in some UK theatres and on YouTube.
DJ and events manager – turned MP – Jeff Smith is chairing the All-Party Parliamentary Group for the Night-Time Economy. The group’s objective is to give “a voice” to the struggling industry and campaign for further Government support. A step in the right direction.
Defected Records will be donating all profits made on their new afro label to Bridges for Music – an organisation that raises awareness about issues in developing countries. Sondela Recordings is set to launch on February 5th.
The Flaming Lips performed at two “space bubble” concerts in Oklahoma last week. To avoid the spread of the virus – the audience watched in their own inflatable ball which could fit up to three people inside.
