Starting Fresh in Lincoln

Lincoln may be a small town but it has a big personality with a delightful mix of ancient and modern. With the majority of residents being students, it’s no wonder Lincoln’s nightlife is booming and plays the perfect host to welcome Freshers to what will be the best few years of their lives- now that’s a lot of partying!

Now, we at Licklist know University isn’t all about partying, but we think Lincoln has something to shout about- and it’s not about the swans!

Lincoln Fresher’s week is one to remember with something happening every night of the week. You’ll start it off by attending the ‘Welcome Party’ at the Engine Shed- Lincoln’s Student Union- a great place to break the ice with your new housemates. Throughout the week you can enjoy a wide range of entertainment from DJ sets (past acts such as Chase and Status and Zane Lowe), UV Paint Parties, Quizzes and Open Mic nights. Also not forgetting the Fresher’s Fare where you can pick up a ton of freebies, drink offers and even free pizza– sweet!

Just a five-minute walk away from campus is the high street with a whole host of nightclubs to get your party started. A Fresher’s party wouldn’t be complete without Superbull. Every Friday at Pulse & Ritzy nightclub is Lincoln’s unrivaled student party- with amazing drink offers and great chart toppers.

Why not spend a night in Tokyo? (No, not that Tokyo. Sorry, we’re pretty sure your student budget won’t stretch for a spontaneous plane trip). This nightclub is sophisticated and sexy (if you’re still standing at this point). Just some of the iconic features are the over 20 beautiful, hanging chandeliers, a VIP room, two separate dance-floors, a basement and even a rum shack.

If that doesn’t tickle your fancy, then there’s bound be something that will at Home. With six rooms, each filled with their own unique character, music and atmosphere, there really is something for everyone: from R&B in the attic to the damn right cheesy, old school classics in the basement- and everything in between. Home has its very own party planning specialists to make sure your night is perfect: from the delicious catering in the Lounge Bar & Kitchen, to getting the celebrity treatment in the Reserve Lounge VIP Suite. Yet if planning isn’t your forte, and you like to go with the flow, then the weekly events at Home might be more for you: from Union Tuesdays, Entourage Thursdays and Social Sundays.

Also on the high street are the well acclaimed Revolution and Walkabout and perhaps the less heard of Lola Lo and Trebles. But if nightclubs aren’t your thing, or you fancy something different, then fear not. Take a wonder up Steep Hill (they don’t call it steep for nothing though) and experience a whole new take on Lincoln, with an array of traditional pubs and sophisticated wine bars amongst the beautiful, historic architecture that towers over the city. You can start your journey up the hill (a somewhat epic pub crawl perhaps?) with drinks at The Strait and Narrow. This bar boasts a wide range of beers and tantalizing cocktails to ales and spirits. Carry on upwards and you’ll find more inviting pubs, amongst the boutiques and antique shops. The Widow Cullen’s Well, for instance is popular for its cheap Sam Smith beers, not to mention that it’s built on a well (true story). With its exposed beams, open fires and delightful furnishings, this cosy pub is perfect for settling a debate with friends about what pub to visit next (and whose round it is)!

Lincoln is spoilt for choices when it comes to drinking, from pre-drinks to clubbing, to pubs and bars. There’s so much to do in Lincoln; you’ll find it hard to finish that essay you’re been avoiding for weeks now... so what are you waiting for? Discover Lincoln.
