Kendal calls us again for 2015!
It may be September, and Summer may be but a distant memory now the Winter nights are drawing in, but don’t let that stop you from planning your Summer for 2015!
Where better to start than the quaint little town of Kendal. Not quite what you had in mind? Well let me tell you more…
Kendal deserves its time in the spotlight, not only for its picturesque views, in the heart of the Lake District, and the infamous mint cake (I’ll warn you though, it’s an acquired taste). Kendal hosts a festival like no other over a period of four fabulous days in the fields.
Set over a number of stages, all within just five minutes walk of each other, Kendal Calling provides something for everyone. You can expect stages such as the Main Stage, Glow Dance tent (with DJ sets like 2ManyDjs and Zane Lowe) Soapbox Comedy, Houseparty and much more. It has a wide range of food and drink stalls. The Real Ale bar is one not to miss, with great produce from the Lake District’s best breweries. Keep an eye out for the festivals’ own ales too: ‘Kendale’ (see what they did there?) and ‘Oh Deer!’
Kendal is one of the fewest festivals that cater for the little one’s too (and big one’s alike): you can enjoy workshops on percussion making and music, movement and mask making, plus story telling and creative writing, with lots of games and activities running all weekend. If you’re into art you can find works from independent artists which feature in every corner of the site. Amongst the music and stalls, you’ll find all sorts of wonderful things to make you smile and keep you entertained. They even have a fancy dress theme. This year's theme was '...goes to the stars', an intergalactic theme. The whole site is consistent throughout with chosen theme, from décor to performance art, which makes it a unique experience.
The focus of course really is the music, which again boasts an array of talented artists to please you all: over the years Kendall Calling has grown bigger and bigger, grabbing fantastic headline acts such as Blondie, Dizzee Rascall, Basement Jaxx and Frank Tuner. 2014 brought you acts like Razorlight, Newton Faulkner and Reel Big Fish, and we’ve got a feeling 2015 will be even better.
Here’s the exciting bit- you can experience you best summer festival yet from as little as £13.92. Yep, you heard right. On the 1st of each month up until January, Kendal Calling will be going on sale with a limited allocation of all ticket types- and when they’re gone, they’re gone! Weekend tickets were priced at £119 including camping, tickets for children aged 11-15 years priced at £60, with free entry for under 11s.
Away from the fields, Kendal Calling’s commitment to supporting the local community and charities continues to grow too. Since 2010 the festival has raised over £55,000 for charities. Now that’s something to shout about.
2015 will celebrate the festival’s 10th year, over the weekend of Thursday 30th July to Sunday 2nd August, returning to the Lowther Deer Park, Hackthorpe, in the Lake District.
See you in the Fields!
