London Contemporary Orchestra specialise in audio-visual installations that push forward the capacities of acoustic and electronic sound.

GABA-analogue is an exclusive new installation over a year in the making that features commissions from some of the UK’s leading new composers and music producers presented within a unique immersive audio-visual environment.

Follow us on Facebook and Instagram: @lcorchestra for updates on the guests performing at the show.

For the first time in its history Printworks will feature acoustic instrumentation, including four orchestras playing simultaneously with electronic sampling, all in its unique 30,000 sq. ft main space.

The evening will feature multiple different performances spread across the evening from 20.30-01.00 all in durational style. The audience is free to wander around the installation as the pieces unfold.

Lee Gamble, future LCO collaborator, has been added to the line up for a special DJ set.

At the heart of the evening is composer Shiva Feshareki's brand new composition "GABA-analogue". The piece, commissioned from Shiva Feshareki by London Music Masters, will feature four orchestras playing simultaneously with electronic sampling for the first time. It is described by Feshareki as “a deconstructed orchestral composition that scatters the orchestra within and around the audience, creating a sonic-sculptural experience which spatialises dance music using acoustic instrumental composition and manipulated electronics."

All pieces from the programme push the boundaries of an orchestra either by channelling sounds physically around the space or by testing the relationship between acoustic and synthesised sound. The other works featured include:

‘Nodding Trilliums and Curve-Lined Angles’ by Benedict Mason, a fascinating insight into Mason’s increasing interest at that time in polyrhythmic structures and the melding of synthetic and acoustic colours. This piece is presented in association with PRS for Music Foundation as part of their RESONATE programme - championing UK orchestral music from the last 25 years.

‘Parallel Colour’ by Edmund Finnis splits 15 musicians into two separate groups with a double bass in the middle and a grand piano on each side. Clear and direct patterns of sound are made to move across the ensemble-space, variously heard in canon, in parallel motion, overlapping or closely interwoven.

‘Carpathia’ by Chaines (Caroline Haines) makes another combination of acoustic and electronic sound combining string orchestra with synthesiser and electronics.

London Contemporary Orchestra is one of the world’s leading ensembles of contemporary music.

The orchestra specialises in multi-disciplinary collaborations combining new music with visual and artistic elements as well as collaborations with leading electronic producers and contemporary composers.

Recent work has included:

- A new acclaimed live show created with Actress and Boiler Room

- An audio visual collaboration with Steve Reich and the film-maker Bill Morrison

- Work on the albums of Frank Ocean, Radiohead and Justice

- Two new premieres with Terry Riley at the Barbican
