Sweet Memory Sounds with Count Skylarkin, Natty Bo
About this Event
It's a little strange to talk about newness at Sweet Memory Sounds because by its nature it's a club that takes pleasure in hindsight, but anyway, it's been a beautiful transition into 2014 with Sweet Memory Sounds founder and talisman DJ Derek retiring on New Year's Eve and graciously passing the SMS baton on to brilliant DJs with whom he has worked very often, namely Count Skylarkin and Natty Bo. (DJ Mylon Domican, who played at SMS for three years, has moved on to New York...) .
Natty Bo is a record collector, DJ, dancer, bandleader and singer of Ska Cubano, The Top Cats, The Yiddish Twist Orchestra and, of course, The Flames Of Rhythm. He also spins the best sounds in town, having honed his craft over the past three decades at Gaz's Rockin' Blues and countless other festivals, clubs, house parties and late-night shebeens.
Count Skylarkin stumbled into DJing in mid-nineties South London and has since gone on to work with legendary Jamaican acts such as The Wailers (UK tour DJ), Toots & The Maytals, The Skatalites, Max Romeo and countless others, not to mention his decade-long association with outgoing Sweet Memory Sounds headliner DJ Derek in Oxford and elsewhere.
