Craig Charles (6 Music)....
...is an artist who has been in the public eye since he was 12. First known for his poetry, he has developed a career as an actor, poet, but most importantly for us, within the music industry both as a DJ and band member. He maybe best known for his BBC6 Music show, the Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show, which he continues to host every Saturday and this Funk and Soul club night is an extension of the show and has covered the length and breadth of the country.
Lack Of Afro (London Album Launch - Full Live Band)
- (Adam Gibbons) has achieved a startling amount in the few years since his first releases on
Freestyle records. With four highly acclaimed albums under his belt, touring live and DJing across the world, and producing and remixing everyone from
through to Tom Jones, The Pharcyde, The New Mastersounds Wax, Herbal T & Kraak & Smaak
Lack of Afro is soon to release his fifth album “Music for
Adverts”.
Wide ranging, eclectic and progressive musical outlook has always been the Lack of Afro approach. His
new album follows suit as he harnesses disparate musical styles ranging from funk, soul and hip-hop to
create a contemporary yet vintage musical escapade of superb songs. It features collaborations from
hugely popular US rappers Wax and Herbal T, as well as up and coming UK vocalist and son of Craig
Charles
, Jack Tyson-Charles.
The Lack of Afro story began back in 2006 after excited word spread to the Freestyle Records offices
about the sounds Adam was creating. Freestyle's head honcho instantly signed him and released the
stunning debut single "Wait A Minute." One of the labels fastest selling 12"s ever, it went on to sell
massive numbers worldwide and appeared on countless compilations.
The subsequent 2007 album "Press On" fulfilled his early promise, with Adam playing nearly all the
instruments himself. Hailed by iDJ magazine as "one of the greatest albums of the modern funk era", the
release passed into contemporary music folklore.
In 2009 with "My Groove, Your Move", Lack of Afro dispelled the difficult second album' syndrome
without even breaking a sweat and his 2011 album “This Time” was a trailblazing, soulful ride
showcasing the musical depths of this multi-instrumentalist mastermind.
