Supremely talented pianist Hugo Simmonds joins us to play stride piano like no other: think Fats Waller or Earl ‘Fatha’ Hines.



As a teenager, Hugo had the great fortune of meeting the legendary pianist Johnny Parker (Humphrey Lyttelton’s pianist in the 1950s) who introduced him to the surviving heroes of British hot jazz and to the records that had inspired them from a bygone age. It was Parker who gave Hugo his best advise, “If you can’t swing a dance floor on the piano by yourself, then you have no business playing in a band!”
