The Cactus Blossoms with Support from Mark J.Lee & the Saddle Kings
The Cactus Blossoms bring a new energy and vitality to a classic sound with their blood harmonies and instantly memorable songs — they’re often compared to the Everly Brothers. Rolling Stone writes, “there’s no getting around it: You’re Dreaming is pretty damn dreamy” and Garden & Gun magazine says, “the brothers’ transcendent harmonies shine throughout and the slippery, spooky guitar work gives You’re Dreaming a stamp of authenticity, despite hailing from the frozen tundra of the North Star State.
Featured performing their song “Mississippi” live at the Bang Bang Bar on the third episode of Twin Peaks, the band premiered their own video for the song with NPR’s All Songs TV. Filmed in the icy waters of their native Minnesota, the band's haunting, reverb-drenched harmonies and the song's subject matter -- the protagonist makes a jump into the cold, dark waters of the Mississippi -- "perfectly captures the strange unease and surreal mystery Twin Peaks is known for"(NPR). The track appears on their debut Red House album, You’re Dreaming, and is also featured on the Twin Peaks soundtrack due out September 8.
The Cactus Blossoms and their band have been touring hear and abroad this summer, including an appearance at London’s Hyde Park (with Kings of Leon) as well as festival dates.
Mark J Lee.
Mark J. Lee is a Country singer, guitar player and producer from South Devon UK. Inspired by classic country sounds from Nashville to Bakersfield with a style that is both original and in step with the golden era of country songwriting.
As well as taking cues from Willie Nelson, Gram Parsons, Buck Owens and Hank Williams Snr. he reaches further to the writings of Leonard Cohen, Ernest Hemmingway and Kurt Vonnegut for thematic and poetic guidance. The result is a clear and distinct voice laced with hope, humour and a cathartic cynicism that stands apart from the industry approved themes we have grown to accept from this end of the musical spectrum.
Mark J. Lee honed his trademark laconic delivery and self effacing onstage humour through ten years of performing across the UK and Europe with Howlin' Lord the country,psyche-rock,boogie,garage band he fronted alongside working with other country and rock'n'roll acts in and around his adopted home of Bristol on guitar and piano or as a cowriter and producer.
More recently Mark J. Lee collaborated with production duo The Insects on a version of trad folk song 'A Lyke Wake Dirge' for the soundtrack to the BBC drama series 'The Living and the Dead' hailed The Guardian as 'Our new National Anthem'.
