FFATC 4: Oya Paya / Jouska / Azura Kings / FlightWorks
About this Event
Once a month Cavern Club Liverpool and gigmit will be inviting four unique, emerging artists, performing their original music in the Cavern Live Lounge.
For our fourth Fresh Faces @ The Cavern, we will be featuring the following acts:
Oya Paya
Oya Paya are a smelly group of twenty-somethings based in Liverpool. They're all about #spicy music, a DIY approach, and a bromance between three people who come from different parts of the globe. Who are they?
Frontman Maxime McGowan - Half-Liverpudlian and Half-French, his soulful guitar licks, throat-scraping vocals, and slightly confusing Australian accent make him a true encapsulator of audiences.
Drummer Ashwin Menon - Born and bred in the lion city of Singapore, Ashwin carries a naturally infectious groove like no-other.
Bassist Saam Jafarzadeh - Half-Iranian, Half-English, and raised in Singapore, he delivers his stomach-punching bass runs under a mysterious guise.

Jouska
Three scoundrels from Leicester serving up a big ole’ swig of raucous post punk n roll that will probably burn a bit on the way down. But it’ll all be worth it.
Songs that will make you reminisce about the house party where you fell asleep at 4am and woke to see someone trying to smoke an air freshener. Big, swirly, spiky instrumental rock ’n roll. Instrumental, but more than enough going on to make you glad they haven’t got a singer yelling over the top.
For fans of Tame Impala, Mogwai, Joy Division, Explosions in the Sky.
"Jouska were a new band for me, and a band that impressed me, from the left handed Hendrix-like guitars, to the tribal drumming via the rave influenced bass. Edging towards a heavy sound at times then bringing it back to indie, all three members bouncing off each other." - Keith Jobey, musicinleicester.co.uk

Azura Kings
A Geordie, a Scouser, a Cockney and a Celt walk into a bar and.... form a neo-80s indie pop band.
Azura Kings met at an English lit lecture at Liverpool University, where during an icebreaker session on the first day, Matt (vocals/guitar), Alex (drums) and Ryan (bass) all voiced their shared love of The Beatles, Arctic Monkeys and Sticky Fingers. Nathan (guitar) joined and Azura Kings, a modern neo-80s indie quartet, was born.
Azura Kings' dark and melancholy indie pop, swathed in reverb, is as northern as a red brick factory where they used to make things, but whose current inhabitants sport skinny jeans and quiffs. They write about surviving on zero hour contracts and big nights out, letting their low slung guitars do the talking, all with the shared dream of moving out of their mum’s box room.
“Azura Kings don’t hide around metaphors. It’s honest and real, something that is hard to come by in indie music today.” - getintothis.co.uk
