Following the release of his critically acclaimed fifth album, today Tom Williams announces a seven date UK tour and an appearance at On Blackheath Festival, on Saturday 9th September. In addition to this run, Tom Williams and his band will play a headline show at London’s Bush Hall, following his recent sold out show at The Lexington.
Williams’s fifth record to date, ‘All Change’ is a ten track collection of songs written in practice rooms across Kent, in breaks from teaching guitar and song writing to school children. The record was later refined at the music department of Leeds Beckett University, where Williams accepted a week-long artists residency on the condition that they would provide him with a band, who turned out to be music tech students. The results were sent to Ian Grimble (The Fall, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Mumford & Sons) for mixing and ‘All Change’ came into being.
As a body of work, the album offers a moving and honest commentary on the mindset of a musician who was prepared to hang up his guitar and take on life’s other challenges. It moves from the impassioned, angry response to the rise of populist right wing politics of first single ‘Everyone Needs A Home’ to the exquisite tenderness of ‘There She Goes Again’ (a love song to Williams’ illustrator wife). This is the sound of a musician finally relaxing into his own creative process
