Tunde Jegede and the Art Ensemble of Lagos in London
About this Event
£12 Advance Tickets: bit.ly/TJAELLondon
Tunde Jegede is a composer, kora player and 21st century Renaissance man. He returns to UK with his new super-group, Art Ensemble of Lagos, direct from Nigeria, who bring a joyful set of celebratory songs and soulful ballads that are a mix of jazz, afro-beat and world music. From Latin-tinged songs to lyrical soul ballads, from afro-beat numbers to ancestral anthems, the Art Ensemble of Lagos has a definitive sound that is distinctly their own. With their contemporary songs and evocative Malian vocals, this is music that uplifts the spirit and speaks directly to the heart.
This summer, Tunde Jegede & the Art Ensemble of Lagos will release their debut album, The Waters, which has created a set of mirrors between the old and new world, a dialogue between composition, contemporary music and a renewed vision of an oral tradition rooted in the culture of the Sahel - the Griot vision. This first-ever 6-date UK tour by Tunde Jegede and the Art Ensemble of Lagos is part of the New Horizons International Initiative which co-ordinates cultural exchange programmes between West Africa and UK.
