The Real People w/ Psyence & Barry Sutton (The La's / Cast)
About this Event
Fri July 7 sees the launch night of SUBSTANCE, an indie orientated evening bringing back the best bands of the britpop era, with after parties and DJ sets from some of the biggest names in indie music. The first show sees BRITPOP ORIGINATORS TheOfficialRealPeople alongside Psyence & Barry Sutton of Cast Band.
THE REAL PEOPLE were Britpop before Britpop was invented, an inspired and fun rehash of the 60s British Invasion, and Liverpudlian brothers Tony and Chris Griffiths put together an influential brew of psychedelic rock, ’70s funk, and late-’80s dance music (“Window Pane” / “Open up Your Mind’) wooing modern rock radio listeners in the early ’90s.
Credited by many bands as an influence, most notably Oasis, The ‘Realies’ are also successful Top 40 hit songwriters for the likes of Cher, Ocean Colour Scene, BB Mak and Atomic Kitten. Still going stronger than ever with a new album Monday Morning Breakdown out now The Real People are STILL on fire.
Blues rock-inspired heavy alt-rockers PSYENCE could only come from Stoke… Already being lauded NME, Q, Clash, Quietus and The Guardian, they’re blurring the lines of early 70’s blues rock and modern-day psychedelia, so expect an intense chemical reaction of face-melting riffs, spacious vocals and groove-based rhythms that have been locked away up north to slowly mature far away from the London scene.
BARRY SUTTON (The La’s/Cast) will treat us to some of the classics alongside his own solo work!
DJ DAVE BOOTH was the Stone Roses’ DJ, working Spike Island, Blackpool, Alexandra Palace, and all the great Roses gigs that have now become the stuff of pop culture legend. Djing for over 30 years now from Manchester to Ibiza at legendary clubs such at Pips, Hacienda and Garland he still has the heart & soul for music he was born with.
