RAMZI is a British singer, songwriter and music producer from London, England, who spent most of his childhood growing up in Lagos, Nigeria. He is a multi- instrumentalist playing the guitar, piano, keyboards, bass guitar, drums and percussion. Ramzi is mostly known for his emotive songs, wide vocal range and all round musical talent. He has also been known in the past for his fusion of western R&B with ethnic styles.

HISTORY

Ramzi grew up in Lagos, Nigeria where he learnt to sing and play instruments at the age of 9. His parents were both music lovers and his mother a classical piano teacher. He was known at school for his musical talent, which he excelled in winning numerous awards and performing annually at the school talent

contests. Ramzi was also known as being one of the funniest kids in his classroom and was talented at drawing.

Over the years Ramzi developed his musical talent and was influenced by a wide range of musical genres, listening to and performing Classical Music, Pop, Rock, Heavy Metal, R&B, HipHop, Soul, Jazz, Afrobeat and Middle Eastern Music.

He spent his teen years performing at gigs with musicians much older than him and by the age of 17 was a resident singer and DJ at one of Lagos’s hottest nightclubs “Pancho Villa”.

At 19 Ramzi returned to the UK where he studied sound engineering, midi technology and music theory. He started performing and making a name for himself in London on the live circuit whilst also developing his songwriting and production skills working with other artists.. It wasn’t long before Ramzi began to attract the attention of managers and a&r’s in the music industry.

2007 – 2013

Ramzi released his first single “Alone” in July 2007, which featured

a popular remix by Taio Cruz. “Alone” received massive radio and tv airplay across the UK. This landed him a management deal with 2Tone Entertainment and eventually a record deal with RGS Entertainment in the UK and EMI Records in the U.A.E. He was later signed BBQ Records in Japan.

In early 2009 Ramzi released his first studio album “Chapter One” which featured his worldwide smash hit “Love Is Blind” feat Ash King, a Spanish guitar driven R&B track that fused English, Arabic and Hindi. The music video featured former East Enders and Bollywood Dreams star Preeya Kalidas.

“Chapter One” peaked at no2 on the Charts throughout Dubai and the Middle East making Ramzi a star and household name in the region. In Japan Ramzi’s lead single “Fall In Love” peaked at no2 on the iTunes R&B Chart earning him popularity in the region where the album sold a respectable number of copies. Ramzi was awarded a Gold disc by EMI Records in recognition of “Chapter One’s” sales.

In 2011 after taking 2 years out to tour and work on new music as well as write for other artists, Ramzi returned with his 2nd album “Touch The Sky” which featured the lead single “My Wife” and “Pretending”. “My Wife” followed in the footsteps of “Love Is Blind” gaining massive popularity particularly in The Middle East and amongst Ramzi’s growing worldwide fanbase.

In the UK “Pretending” gained respectable radio airplay and featured a popular remix by Rudimental. In Japan Ramzi released a cover version of Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” as the first single off “Touch The Sky” The track was recorded and produced in his own unique style.

In 2012 Ramzi released “Smile” featuring Gurinder Seagal, a club track fusing urban beats with r&b and Punjabi singing. This was a UK only release and shook the UK Asian music scene gaining massive support at radio from top DJ’s such as Bobby Friction and Nihal on BBC Radio One. The video also received massive

rotation on Asian music channels.
