About this Event

Mega Ran:

RANDOM (a): Unpredictable, Following no particular pattern, deterministic...a system whose evolution cannot be predicted exactly. Random, aka Random Beats, aka Big Ran personifies what Hip-Hop should be: Spontaneous, fun, and true. Every album conveys a different theme, a different vibe and a different emotion.

Welcome to The Random Experience, where You Are the Music.

Born Raheem Jarbo in Philadelphia to a southern mother and African father, Random’s songs are filled with all of the heartache, pain, triumph, tragedy and fun that come with everyday living. A Philadelphia native and Phoenix transplant, graduate of Penn State University and middle school instructor, Random speaks to the everyman, transcending race or class barriers.”I never want anyone to predict my next move,” he says.

You can, however, expect the unexpected from Random, hence the name. After teaching himself to make beats on the MTV Music Generator software for PlayStation, Random landed a job at a Philadelphia studio as a producer and engineer. During downtime, he would create his first demo tape. This led to Random signing with indie label RAHM Nation Recordings and releasing his debut album, The Call in 2006. Random made waves by going way left of his backpack roots when he released “Mega Ran” in 2007. It was an album completely comprised of sampled 8-bit beats from the hit video game series “Mega Man.”

MC Ipod:

MC iPod – or Ian to his mother – is a dude crudely rapping over home-made electro beats. Sounds simple enough and, well, it is.

Taking stylistic influence from the usual suspects in the “nerdcore” genre – MC Lars, Akira the Don, etc – MC iPod is also clearly influenced by the pop-punk world.

2015 marks the tenth anniversary of the first MC iPod gig; which took place in the award-winning Norwich Arts Centre. These past ten years have seen the release of two full lengths, a covers album, a 'best of' compilation and several EPs across a range of normal and novelty formats: CD, cassette, floppy disc, custom Lego Minifigure. Y'know, the usual!

MC iPod has shared stages with a diverse range of artists including, but not limited to, The Menzingers, Bomb the Music Industry, Dan le Sac, The Luchagors (featuring former WWE superstar Amy “Lita” Dumas), Abdoujaparov (the current band of Fruitbat from Carter USM), Mac Sabbath, Kunt and the Gang and Peter Doherty.

2015 sees the release of “The Second Five Years”; a collection of tracks from EPs, splits and demos released since 2010.

To paraphrase an MC Lars lyric: ten years deep and I'm only getting better.

Hashmatiks:

HASHMATIKS are a chiptune duo forged in South London. The two met through a mutual friend and since then, they have become an unstoppable force, bowling over audiences wherever they go.

KromitzR and DaBass use live drums and various vintage game hardware to create the most insane blend of progressive chip tune, 8-bit synths and free jazz / fusion-y beats. These cheeky masked assailants bring the thunder with an electric stage show leaving audience members reeling from the shock…”WHAT DID I JUST SEE??”

The music they produce can only be described as a real live chiptune act.
