About this Event
ABSENT KELLY INTRODUCING @ SURYA SATURDAY 29TH AUGUST
Full Line Up: Imbium, Brkfst, The Hazy Shades, Head of Light Entertainment, Alina Weckstrom
To mark the end of summer, prepare to be served up a bill full of emerging Indie talent from London and beyond.
Topping the evening’s bill is Imbium. Imbium are joining us from the South Coast for this show and Worthing trio are keen to impress in the Capital. The band play punk and jazz influenced, ‘Pop and Roll’ and have already got a firm name for themselves on their local scene and have played on some of the South’s most well renowned underground venues, including The Haunt in Brighton and London’s Underbelly.
Joining them is Brkfst. This London four piece have not been playing together long, but are currently gigging their hearts out and they’ve played on some well renowned stages around the Capital so far including King’s Cross’s Surya and Brixton Jamm. The band also recently bagged a headline slot at the West End’s 229 to follow in the footsteps of Supergrass’ Gaz Coombes, by releasing their debut offering on this stage.
Another act coming from further afield is The Hazy Shades. This Rock ‘N’
Roll quartet are coming all the way from Glasgow for the show and have been previously likened to Paul Weller, The Strokes and Jefferson Airplane to name but a few. They’ve enjoyed a handful of airplay so far and have impressed promoters and audiences alike at huge Scottish venues like King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut in the few years they’ve played together.
Absent Kelly also bring you Head of Light Entertainment. This quartet dub themselves as “Interesting pop music for the disengaged”. In their native Stockton-On-Tees, this band are already a fairly big deal, being regularly played on BBC radio there and one of their music videos was featured as part of the BSM Festival recently. The band have travelled down to the Capital a few times so far, playing the Dublin Castle and got featured in blog ‘London Unsigned’ as a result so this is a rare opportunity not to be missed.
Opening the show is Alina Weckstrom. Alina is originally from Finland but is now based in London, playing her brand of Folk inspired Acoustic Indie around the Capital. You can hear multiple influences in her music, from Bon Iver to Kate Rusby and, despite being fairly new to the scene, Alina’s sound is already strong and confident and is something quite exciting.
