Parallel Dimensions w/ 808 State, Graeme Park, Ifan Dafydd

27/02/2015

About this Event

On February 27th, Parallel Dimensions returns to the legendary venue for another edition of Skyline. This time round, we’ll be celebrating 25 years of house, disco and techno, with a main room line-up that will take punters back to the halcyon days of house and rave, when people danced all night with strangers, smiling faces abounded, and genre definitions had yet to be confirmed.

There’s a strong old school flavour in the main room, where British house/rave pioneers 808 STATE will be headlining. After forming in 1988, Graham Massey, Martin Price and Gerald Simpson (who later struck out on his own as A Guy Called Gerald) quickly became torchbearers for a new wave of British house, techno and electronica. They were responsible for a string of crossover anthems, including Balearic anthem “Pacific State”, “Cubik”, and “Olympic”. Their brand of dancefloor-friendly electronic music – which touched on breakbeat hardcore, deep house, techno, ambient and Kraftwerk-inspired melodious electronica – influenced a whole generation of British dance acts, including Underworld, Orbital and the Chemical Brothers. In recent years many top underground house producers from the UK, Europe and the US have been revisiting the style they called their own, with house-tempo rave rhythms, wide-eyed melodies and spinetingling chords. Oh, and thumping basslines!

They’ll be joined in the main room by legendary Hacienda resident Graeme Park – a man who knows more than most about joining the dots between the past, present and future, given that he’s already chalked up 30 years behind the decks – and legendary Bristolian DELI G. The latter also found fame during the 1990s, when his radio show, The Touch, introduced a whole generation of clubbers in the West Country and Wales to the latest American house music. Now 30 years on from the start of his career, Deli remains a key part of the Bristol scene, loved as much by young clubbers as old heads.

Room 2 hosted by Psyched

Contemporary house, techno and bass music. Hosted by fast-rising local crew PSYCHED, the room will be headlined by Gilles Peterson fave IFAN DAFYDD, whose debut single “No Good” was proclaimed by Kutmah, Sinden and Oneman as an “instant classic”.

Room 3 Hosted by Bedmo Disco Records

Bristol’s leading purveyors of disco, boogie and electrofunk old and new. Label owners BEDMO DISCO – aka Sell By Dave, Awon and Five-Stylez – will be joined behind the decks by local veteran and BCFM presenter TRISTAN B, and possibly a few surprise guests. Expect a sweaty trip through 40 years of disco, boogie, soul, funk and hip-hop, with a few surprises thrown in!

So there you have it: a riotous, party-hearty celebration of three decades of house, disco and techno, in the surrounds of a venue that was hosting similarly celebratory bashes back in the day. Let’s dance!
