Venue spotlight: Werkhaus

It might feel as though everything has been open for months since ‘Freedom Day’ saw the complete reopening of clubs and festivals back in July, and now everyone is busy just trying to be as normal as humanly possible. However, as seems to be the way with this pandemic, we’re still getting little surprises every day. But this time it’s a good type of surprise – not like that positive lateral flow test you did after Reading festival.

That’s right, east London club Werkhaus is finally back! After an eighteen-month hiatus due to, well... you know what... the club opened its doors again on 11th September. People were so thirsty for it, the dancefloor looked like the clubbing equivalent of Primark on a Saturday. This gritty club was born from the ashes of the underground (and mostly illegal) rave scene that was flourishing back in 2017. The team behind Werkhaus legitimised it, put a massive sound system in it, and made one of the coolest venues east of the City.

Luca, the General Manager at Werkhaus, said of the relaunch: “Having worked in nightlife for over 15 years it was a real challenge to see a space we’d worked so hard on have to close for 18 months. However, it gave us time to refine the venue and it’s now better than we originally imagined it. We’re absolutely thrilled to be open once more and delivering great events for like-minded people!”

Upcoming events and shows at Werkhaus include appearances from legends such as Brame & Hamo, Sally C, Cromby, Holly Lester, Kwartz, Theo Komp, Plastician, Klose One, Jay Carder, Qendresa, Tech Support, Conducta, Tristan De Cunha, Huerta, Frazi.er, Ansome, Space Dimension Controller, P.E.A.R.L, Saffron Stone, and Effy. Both Conducta and Fraz.ier will be playing ‘All Night Long’ events at the venue. What a line-up! We really wanna be there.

You can check out all the events going on at Werkhaus on the RA website here. It’s a little difficult to find, but that’s kind of their vibe. You can find Werkhaus just east of Liverpool Street, at 91 Brick Ln, London E1 6QL.
