Return Of The Bab

If there’s one thing we’ve missed more than our local and a night on the town, it’s the kebab shop after. Nothing hits quite like a kebab and chips at the end of a mad one.

 

You know the feeling – gathering around the trusty kebab man, throwing jokes around with your gang, as you prepare to aid the inevitable hangover which is bound to come. There is nowhere you’d rather be.

 

The popularity of the doner kebab has been growing since the 1970s, though first arrived in the UK in the 1940s with an influx of migrants from Turkish, Cypriot and Kurdish communities.

 

By 2006, kebab became the 7th most popular takeaway food in the UK and the demand has continued to grow!

 

However, with the 10 pm curfew during the last lockdown, many kebab shops had a difficult time and were forced to shut by the time pubs and bars had closed.

 

Luckily, with the restrictions easing during this lockdown, there is going to be no curfew when the bars and pubs re-open on 12 April.

 

Not only is this important for nightlife culture, but the kebab industry is reported to be worth more than £2.2 billion to the UK economy!
