“Shut up” Brummies: A guide to MADE Birmingham 2016

There are a few things that are uncertain about Birmingham: is it in the North? Does the Midlands actually exist? Does it really have the worst accent of all time? Who really knows.

But we at Licklist towers are certain of one thing..a 12 hour non-stop rave action? MADE Birmingham Festival is the place to be this summer.

Coming back for its third year, the Metropolitan, Arts and Dance Event will showcase the best of the second city’s creative culture with the help of a few big names along the way.  Filled with glitter-covered folk and hula-hooping girls wherever you turn, it’s time to spend one Saturday night away from Bham’s Broad Street wishing that Gatecrasher hadn’t shut down.

Get yourself in shape

Based in the city’s “Digbeth Triangle”, the festival will be taking over venues such as The Rainbow and The Warehouse to bring you the finest of urban music.

The three headline acts have finally been announced and this year is set to be the biggest and best MADE yet. Firstly, is there anyone that screams ‘summer’ more than dance legends Rudimental? These lot will be feeling the love with Andy C, D&B Arena Awards’ best DJ, and the most talked about artist on the grime scene right now; Stormzy.

There’s still another 75 acts yet to be announced, with a promise of plenty more drum and bass artists taking the stage. So make sure you have your comfiest of shoes on to rave the day and night away.

MADE isn’t just about banging beats and neon face-paint, it’s a celebration of arts and culture of all different types. Expect to see Birmingham’s best street artists and designers showing off their stuff, creative sets and stages and plenty of street food to keep your energy levels up.

The first thing you’ll notice when you walk in is the eruption of colour, just to remind you that you don’t always have to take clubbing so seriously and it’s okay for you to want to party all day long. It may not be donating thousands of pounds to charity or providing water for those in need, but it’s giving the creative ones among us a chance to flaunt what they’ve got whilst you flaunt your best dance moves.

Where can I sign up?

Hard-core electro fans will know that MADE only began in 2014, so it will be celebrating its third birthday this year. Now that it’s turning from a baby to a toddler, it can only mean things are about to get even more crazy in the house of Brum. Tickets are flying away and they are on course for their biggest event to date.

Located only a stone’s throw away from the city centre’s Bullring Shopping Centre, all that is separating you from this rave-extravaganza is a speedy train to Birmingham New Street. MADE now has two successful, sold-out festivals under its belt and it’s finally beginning to put this city on the map for all things urban.

However, the real beauty of this festival is it only lasts one day. That means no camping, no muddy clothes and no lugging half of your life around in a giant rucksack. It’s just one day of constant partying.

Made Birmingham 2016 takes place on Saturday 30th July. For more information about ticketing and the event, visit madebirmingham.com
