Junction 2 Festival 2019
Junction 2 Festival
Junction 2 returns in 2019 for its fourth successful year as one of London's most unique techno music festivals. Following three incredible years of showcasing some of the genre's leading talent, Junction 2 Festival has now been extended to take place across two days, so there's plenty of techno to go round.
This open-air music festival - quite literally held underneath a motorway junction - is passionate about great music and natural beauty, which makes a refreshing change from some of its less environmentally-conscious alternatives. Glastonbury famously made headlines this year for banning plastic bottles, after admitting to selling one million of them at its 2017 festival. Junction 2, on the other hand, has always held the environment close to its heart, striving to limit their carbon footprint and maintain healthy relationships with the community and wider environment. So, you can party guilt free!
The newly added Friday will showcase a diverse range of artists to kick off the festival as it means to go on. Warming things up at The Hex arena on Friday will be electronic duo, Bicep, who will make their long-awaited Junction 2 debut this year. Next comes dance music DJ, Daphni, who you may otherwise know as Caribou or Dan Snaith. Whichever of his personas he decides to take on, his sets are always explosive. Topping off the headliners on the first night of Junction 2 will be renowned DJ and record label owner, Gilles Peterson, whose sets combining acid jazz, hip hop and soul have made him a firm festival favourite.
Taking to The Bridge on Friday is a man famed for his unique approach to DJing, Ricardo Villalobos. Being one of the genre's most recognisable figures, his diverse selections have become notorious throughout the minimal techno scene. Not content with performing just once, acclaimed tech house DJ Craig Richards will also be taking to the Junction 2 stages on both days of the festival, so we thoroughly recommend seeing him twice!
Headlining The Stretch on Friday will be electronic DJ, Hunee, whose ability to seamlessly combine house, disco and soul have solidified his reputation as a true musical magician. Stick around for further sets from Motor City Drum Ensemble, Jeremy Underground, Carista and Peach. And that's not all. With two further arenas to check out, one thing's for certain: there's never a dull moment at Junction 2!
Saturday at J2 is guaranteed to be as incredible as ever, with a whole new array of techno talent on show. Returning to Junction 2 after an incredible performance in 2017 is Maceo Plex, who will perform alongside fellow returnees Tale of Us. Under The Bridge will be Adam Beyer, fresh from his unforgettable B2B set with Carl Cox at Junction 2 2018, which has truly gone down as one of the best in J2 history. Following what is sure to be another historic set is the great Richie Hawtin, considered to be true techno royalty and a leading exponent of the minimal techno scene.
Featuring across Junction 2's other stages are the likes of Loco Dice, Amelie Lens and Sonjo Moonear, whose B2B set with Nicolas Lutz is sure to go down a treat. Saturday sees Junction 2's vibe remain deeply rooted in techno, showcasing some of the genre's most influential names. Junction 2 is all about connecting great people with great music, so whether you're a techno junkie or a newbie to the scene, this immersive festival experience is not to be missed.
