The Line Up
So who can you expect to see at Eden this year.
Top of the bill French group Chinese Man will be bringing their unique trip-hop sound to the festival. Named after their first ever song, the group draws from a range of genres such as hip-hop, trip-hop, reggae and global bass. With such an eclectic pool of influences even the group themselves have trouble describing their sound. However others have drawn comparisons with the dub heavy music of early Gorillaz and DJ Shadow. With a unique style and a genre defying outlook on music, they are certain to wow audiences.
For all you fans of electronic music, English duo Bondax will also be headlining. Reaching early prominence in connection with DJ’s such as Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw on BBC Radio 1, the group released an impressive string of hits throughout 2012 and 2013. However the theft of a laptop on a 2014 tour left the duo short of almost an albums worth of new material. Shaking off adversity Bondax came back with some of their biggest hits to date including ‘All I See’ featuring the impressive vocals of British singer Tanya Lacey. Now with a whole host of breakout festival performances under their belts, they are sure to give one unforgettable performance this summer.
Folk rocker outfit This Is The Kit, the alias of Kate Stables will be performing this summer. As one of the most exciting names in the UK folk scene, the group has a stripped back and sometimes psychedelic sound. With banjos, trumpets and so much more, the creative energy of Kate’s outfit creates a fantastic experience for the audience rarely found in a contemporary group. This Is The Kit has collected accolades and the recognition of critics. Their previous LP Moonshine Freeze chosen as the Rough Trade Album Of The Month for July 2017. Their appearance at Eden Festival is sure to be the latest in a string of successes.
Irvine Welsh will be giving an exclusive DJ set. Best known as the novelist behind seminal novels such as Trainspotting and Filth, both now with film adaptations, Welsh is something of a Scottish national treasure. Since finding success as an author, Welsh has been well received as a DJ showcasing retro sounds. With big plans to release an album of classic acid house in the near future, you can expect Welsh to be at the top of his game for this set.
For those in the know, classic beat poet John Cooper Clarke will be showcasing his lyrical talents. The punk poet laureate built a reputation in a late 70s with his impressive ability for witty, rambling and sharp social commentary. The lyrics of his poem ‘I wanna be yours’ have since been adapted for a song of the same name in homage by the Arctic Monkeys on their last record AM. Now with a whole new generation of fans and a verbal gift that transverses the ages, catch Clarke and his lyrical stylings this June.
