5 reasons to go to Slam Dunk Festival

It’s time for the lovers of pop-punk and heavy metal to unite - Slam Dunk is back and this year it will be celebrating its 10th anniversary. That means 10 years of drum solos, banging guitar riffs and screaming fans (and singers). The festival will be travelling the country from the 28th-30th May but it’s been so popular that tickets for the South have already sold out. Never mind, you’ve still got the chance to grab some tickets for Birmingham or Leeds. So if you think you want to go for the first time or if you’re unsure whether to join the mosh-pits again, here are 5 reasons that YOU should go to Slam Dunk 2016.

1. The Line-Up

One of slam dunks specialities is finding the biggest names on the rock scene, throwing them together across 7 different stages and producing on of the most kick-ass, not-to-miss festivals of the summer. This year, the main act is one that’s been on the scene for a while but still keeps getting bigger and better, one that’s taught us to write sins and not tragedies and how to close the god damn door… that’s right, it’s none other than legends Panic! At The Disco.

Joining them will be a whole host of other famous names, including New Found Glory, Mallory Knox, Yellowcard, Mayday Parade, Young Guns, Moose Blood, Of Mice & Men, Memphis May Fire, The Story So Far…. All in all, there’s about 50 acts, so we won’t go on forever. But you get the gist. It’s gonna be good.

2. The Fashion

One of the most stressful things about going to a festival is planning the perfect outfit. You know the feeling – where you want to find just the right amount of tassels and flower crowns to make you look trendy but not like you’ve just fallen straight out of the 1960s.

But at Slam Dunk, the fashion is all about showing off those band t-shirts you bought at a gig in 2006 and wore pretty much every day after that. It’s about ripped jeans, leather jackets, bright hair and a ‘don’t care’ attitude. Nobody there will judge you. It’s a festival full of love.

3. Mega ticket

This year, Slam Dunk are really treating us with the introduction of the Mega Ticket. Normally a one-day festival only, this baby gives you the opportunity to go to ALL 3 DAYS. Yep, that’s North, Midlands and South. For £165, you get a special queue jump upon entry to the day and get entry to all 3 after-parties. And, to top it all off, they’re also throwing in a Class of 2016 t-shirt too. For any diehard fan, this ticket is a dream, as it means spend loads of time planning which acts you can and can’t see, as now you have 3 whole days to fit them all in!

4. The people

The folks at Slam Dunk are always very kind to us and do their best to make sure we never want the day to end. And normally that means meet and greets. And lots of them. You can collect enough singed posters to wallpaper an entire room, and meet some real idols of punk and rock. If you keep your eyes peeled on the day, you might just score yourself the chance of a selfie with your favourite band – and what could be better than that?

5. Nostalgia

Close your eyes and think back to your teenage years. Remember sitting in your room and screaming the words to Welcome to the Black Parade at the top of your voice? We certainly can.

Slam Dunk always gives you the chance to take a step back in time and hear songs from bands that got you through the best times in your life, and the worst times. Instantly you’ll be taken back to those care free years of rocking out to Mayday Parade with your best mates, and you’ll feel 15 all over again.
