Licklist guide to... Glasgow

If you want great entertainment, company and an experience like no other, say hello to Glasgow. From its stunning architecture and world leading museums to its vibrant nightlife and restaurants, Glasgow offers so much- not forgetting the famous Glasgow banter!

No matter when you visit there’s always something happening. Day or night, the city is always wide-awake and welcoming. You can shop and sightsee all day before hitting the restaurants, bars and clubs at night. Here at Licklist we’ve been looking at nightclubs and bars that really have something to shout about in Glasgow…

If it’s glam partying you’re after, then look no further than Sugar Cube in Merchant City. It’s simply glamorous with its swanky VIP lounge, sweet decor and fabulous crowd. It’s also been known that you may spot a celeb or two within the sparkly walls of this exclusive club

Another in Merchant City, this pretty in pink club also oozes sophistication- but with a twist. Also located in Merchant City in The Shimmy Club.  Oozing sophistication, this is a fun new party club which stands by it’s promise of “booths a' plenty, drinks 'a plenty and tunes a' plenty too”. A slick interior with two rooms in which to party (The Boom Boom Room and The Main Room), The Shimmy Club offers a VIP vibe with sleek white booths boasting their own center table ice bucket for bottles of premium spirits.

In complete contrast, Sub Club has no frills or heels in sight. This basement club is for the ultimate hardcore clubber. However even if you don’t know your disco from your dubstep, in true Glasgow style, no one will be turned away. In fact the atmosphere is so friendly and welcoming, everyone is on their feet on the packed dance floor, and concentrating on having a good time. It’s clear that this club puts more emphasis on the sound than the surroundings.

There are plenty of student nights in Glasgow. One that stuck out to us is Shangrila at Saint Judes. This quirky club night goes all out every Wednesday with incredible decorations, awesome DJs and up for it undergrad crowds. From photo booths to beach huts, this is one massive weekly party!  Saint Judes is a cool bar, restaurant and club all in one, based in Glasgow City Centre (Sauchiehall Street). Upstairs, the chic bar and restaurant sets a seductive tone, whereas Downstairs it gets a little grittier in the basement club. They host top DJs and emerging talent, from Scotland and beyond. From boozy dos to classy cocktail dates and classes, this multi-functioning location really has everything to make sure your night is one to remember, and the nightly drinks promos ensure you can always afford to party.

Not far from that, there’s Nice’n’Sleazy; Home to the best pub jukebox in Scotland, with a fantastic balance of beers, ales, ciders and cocktails. This is pop-kid heaven for students and students who have never grown up. Nice’n’Sleazy welcomes unsigned bands and low key touring artists. In fact, bands like Snow Patrol and Belle and Sebastian performed here BEFORE they were famous- so you never know which rising star could be next!

For a true, traditional Glaswegian experience, The Pot Still, a famous malt whisky pub, is an absolute cracker and is the best traditional bar in the city centre. The pub opened back in 1867 and visitors have come from all around the world to try its unequalled range of whiskies (rumored to have over 300).

So what are you waiting for! Whatever you’re into, you can always rely on wee Glasgow to have something for everyone.
