The Latin Sounds Of Detroit

13/01/2018

About this Event

On January 13th, Williams Cumberbatch, Venezuela-born percussionist will present his a special one off project with his band Tumbaito: Latin inspired versions of Detroit dance classics.

In the 90s Cumberbatch was an influential figure in the Latin music world in the UK, but he turned away from the Latin world and began collaborating with key players in the West London dance music scene, which included the likes of Goldie, Kaidi Tatham, Phil Asher amongst others. As a result he is well versed in the culture and history of dance music on both sides of the Atlantic, and there is no one better placed to present a Latin inspired reimagining of some of the Detroit anthems we know and love.

Expect to hear some of the most iconic tracks to come out of the Motor City played out live - the set list will encompass a huge range of the dance music that has defined the city: the original sounds of the Belleville Three, second wave legends like Theo Parrish and Moodymann through to more modern sounds from the likes of Omar-S and Jay Daniel. Williams and his band have rearranged the epochal work of these artists for a seven piece Latin band to present a unique live show in tribute to the historic sounds of Detroit.
