"FUZ FAMILY OUTING"

- An evening of sounds from Sergeant Buzfuz and their extended family featuring bands led by their bassist Joss Cope and drummer Ian Button.

**SERGEANT BUZFUZ**

Sergeant Buzfuz are a fourteen legged psych-pop-folk machine from South London led by songwriter Joe Murphy. Born in Sheffield at the start of the swinging 60s Murphy describes his musical education as "glam-rock - prog-rock - John Peel - GO!" He founded and co-runs cult indie label Blang and learning disability theatre company QQF. Sergeant Buzfuz have played live BBC 6Music sessions for Marc Riley and Tom Robinson (twice).

"a wonderful collection of clattering antifolk, warped psychedelic pop and strange, experimental post-punkery" - Dancing About Architecture

"one of the freshest and most original records out now " - Radio Free Americana

"perverse and memorable, modern-day folk music." - Morning Star

**JOSS COPE**

Born in the Midlands at the start of the swinging 60s, Joss Cope followed elder brother Julian to Liverpool aged 14 and got sucked in to the nascent post-punk scene there, meeting and playing with Les Pattinson (Echo & the Bunnymen), Pete Wylie (Wah! Heat) and Mike Mooney (Spiritualized).

Back in the Midlands he formed Freight Train with Donald Ross Skinner and Barrett Douce (Mighty Lemon Drops), before moving to London to become part of the emerging Creation Records scene, playing with Crash, The Weather Prophets, Rose McDowell and Biff Bang Pow before his own outfit Something Pretty Beautiful signed to Creation in 1989.

Joss also contributed to brother Julian’s albums Fried and St Julian.

Joss then explored his creativity in other areas, art directing music videos for MTV and working for Greenpeace while playing with psychedelic soulsters Dexter Bentley. In 2012 Joss joined Sergeant Buzfuz on bass and after a while was inspired to write songs again.

The new solo album "Unrequited Lullabies" was recorded in Helsinki with a trio of top Finnish musicians and is released on Gare Du Nord.

"A riot of jangling guitars, psych pop smarts, fuzz freak outs and off-the-wall psychedelia that, along with more current influences, channels Kevin Ayers and the “Canterbury Scene”. Wonderful." - Thee Psychedelicatessen

"Superb...if you like the pastoral psych of XTC, Robyn Hitchcock, The Blue Aeroplanes and Stephen Duffy then I can certainly recommend this." - Retroman Blog

**PAPERNUT CAMBRIDGE**

Papernut Cambridge is a London/Kent based pop collective formed around the songs of Ian Button. Born in Kent at the start of the swinging 60s Button was the guitarist in Death In Vegas and Thrashing Doves and is now a producer and founder of the Gare Du Nord label.

With a revolving band of collaborators including Gare Du Nord labelmates Robert Rotifer, Robert Halcrow and Ralegh Long, as well as Darren Hayman, Jack Hayter (both formerly of Hefner), Go Kart Mozart’s Terry Miles, and more, Papernut have released five albums since2013.

They take pastoral psych, 60's/70's pop, indie, country and Motown influences and weave them into hooky layered pop tunes with suburban smarts and darker atmospherics.

"An escapist mix of 70's glam, Nuggets-psych and 80's indie, all balancing pop bliss and more sinister psychological depths.” - Mojo

"Bursting with flavour...clever without being pretentious..the genuine article" 9/10 - Louder Than War
