Neville Staple Band & Don Letts DJ Set - Roadmender Northampton
About this Event
This is a must attend for everybody that loves the sound of Ska & Reggae
Ska: combined elements of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues.
Neville Staple Band Live on Stage, Neville also known as The Original Rudeboy, is credited with changing the face of pop music not only once but twice.
Neville Staple’s thirty-five-year career in the music business is well documented, from the early days with The Coventry Automatics, The Specials & FunBoy3 in the late ‘70s and ‘80s, to The Special Beat and various other collaborations during his solo career from the ‘90s up to the present day.
Following on from the 2009 Specials reunion and Neville’s departure from the band in late 2012, he continues to be a forerunner of the ska movement, and continues to thrill audiences with his own excellent band, The Neville Staple Band, at venue and festival appearances worldwide.
“It isn’t hard to work out why The Specials lack energy on stage, it’s because Neville Staple took it with him” – Steve Oliver – Nottingham Post
Reggae: strongly influenced by traditional mento as well as American jazz and rhythm and blues, especially the New Orleans R&B practiced by Fats Domino and Allen Toussaint, and evolved out of the earlier genres ska and rocksteady
The legendary Don Letts will be taking over the decks to bring you his reputed DJ Set. Don,introduced reggae to punk, managed the Slits, played music with former Clash member Mick Jones in Big Audio Dynamite and has directed videos for everyone from Jimmy Cliff to S’Express.
