Glasswerk Presents Dan Miraldi
About this Event
Having relocated to New York City last fall, Cleveland-born rocker Dan Miraldi continues to be an artist to watch. Heis back with an exciting new album
Chaos, Destruction & Dancing.
The 10- song set was recorded in Cleveland just before Miraldi’s move east. The new music expands beyond the retro-flavored power-pop and gritty rock and roll that first brought him success and blends in modern elements of indie-pop.
This time around, Miraldi chose to work with two different producers. For one part, he reteamed with Grammy-nominee and Sugar & Adrenaline producer, Dave Douglas (Relient K).
“Dave was drawn to my demos where my vocal delivery was distinctive or different from what I had done in the past.” Steven Beller at Cold Robot Studios recorded the other part of the album as Miraldi states, “Steven really encouraged me to embrace a more modern sound and production style,”adding that, “My songs came from the same place that they always have.
They are just presented in a new way. Working with both Dave and Steven makes this new collection distinctive and also interestingly cohesive. I am very excited for people to hear it.” Responses to Chaos, Destruction & Dancing have been positive. One of the new tracks, “Junkie Friend,” was recently announced as one of three finalists for “Best Folk Song” in the international John Lennon Songwriting Contest.
Miraldi’s music career began in his teens playing Cleveland rock clubs with bands like the Cherry Flavored Elevator and Exit Suburbia. In 2009, he released his solo debut, Thirsty, followed by the EP Tease in 2010. Tease featured the song “The Holy Roller Stone Revival,” which was also a finalist for “ Best Rock Song” in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. During this period, Miraldi split his time between Cleveland and Washington, DC where he was also a founding member of the popular pop-rock act, the
Silver Liners.
The band found success with MTVmusic placements on shows like Teen Mom 2 and When I Was 17. He released two EPs with the Silver Liners before departing in 2011 to focus on his solo career. His next EP Rock N Roll Band!, recorded in Atlanta by the award-winning producer Jim McKell (Kenny Rogers, Allison Krauss), was followed by an East Coast tour and a headlining CD release show at Cleveland’s House of Blues. 2012’s critically acclaimed full-length Sugar & Adrenaline put Miraldi on the map.
Working with Dave Douglas, the album received airplay on over 140 FM stations and rave reviews throughout North America and Europe. A 50-date national tour with Dan’s touring band, Dan Miraldi & the Albino Winos followed. The single and video for his song “Record Collection” received thousands of YouTube and Spotify streams. The song’s popularity led to Miraldi and his band playing to a crowd of over 10,000 people at 2013’s Roverfest Music Festival.
In 2013, Miraldi released a pair of EPs the acoustic Freewheelin’and the electric Devil At Our Heels. For Devil At Our Heels, Miraldi recorded in Nashville with esteemed producer Chris Grainger (Wilco, Sixpence None The Richer, Switchfoot). The EP was enthusiastically received by critics and college radio alike.
Miraldi and the Albino Winos hit the road again, performing at dates that included sets in Austin, TX during both the 2013 and 2014 SXSW festivals. Over the last ten years, Miraldi has had an exciting musical journey. He has shared the bills with likes of
J. Roddy Walston & the Business, Nelly, Wiz Khalifa, the Wailers, Wild Feathers, the Trews, Wally Bryson of the Raspberries, Beatle offspring James McCartney, Family of
the Year, Ari Hest, Blackalicious, the Cool Kids, Fiery Furnances, and even Wang Chung.
The move to New York and release of Chaos Destruction & Dancing, mark the beginning of the next phase of Miraldi’s artistic development. “I can’t imagine an existence where I don’t write songs and play shows. I feel like with the new album, I am remaining true to my musical past, but also am not afraid to learn new tricks and grow.”
