AVA Festival 2019

AVA Festival 2019: An Exciting DJ Showcase

Audio Visual Arts (AVS) festival is an annual event on the rise. Now in its fifth incarnation Belfast’s most exciting electronic music gathering returns this summer (31st of May - 1st of June). AVS has a personal aim to provide up and coming artists as well as those already well established to a platform to showcase their unique skill set. First imagined by founder Sarah McBriar after a pilgrimage to Glastonbury festival, AVA began as a one day event in 2014 before developing into a full festival weekend experience. Complete with a conference prior to the live event for performers and artists to share knowledge, experience and connect with each other, it is a one of a kind experience. With emerging visual artists, producers and DJs all sharing the spotlight, AVA has so much to offer. And with a lineup that is symbolic of the energy and character of Northern Ireland, AVA is an unmissable calendar date for this summer.

So Who Is Performing This Year ?

AVA has pushed the boat out once again for this summer's festival with yet another progressive lineup. Following a conference that is free to attend for anyone interested (held at The Metropolitan Arts Centre Belfast), AVA kicks off the party in a magnificent venue that was once a B&Q warehouse in a previous life (on Boucher Road). While the conference is open to all ages, the festival event is 18 plus only so make sure you have ID on you if you are baby faced.

First on the list we have Motor City Drum Ensemble. The ensemble act is made up surprisingly of one man, DJ Danilo Plessow as he continues on his mission to find new and exciting sounds. With a nearly encyclopedic knowledge of disco and house music, MCDM gives a fresh performance every time.

Leading light in the UK bass music scene Ben UFO will be showing off his stuff this summer. Known as the “non-producer” of Hessle Audio, Ben UFO real name Ben Thompson has crafted a career in experimental electronica off DJ sets alone. First performing internet radio sets from his mates bedroom floor, Ben UFO has established himself as a one of the main faces on the scene. Be sure to catch him at AVA.

DJ wizard Avalon Emerson will be unpacking her method at AVA. As a San Franciscan native, she now produces all her music out of the DJ mecca that is Berlin. Building an impressive reputation for herself, the electronic pioneer has quickly gone from a flat party DJ to a rising star on the global techno scene.

American DJ and producer Marea Stamper will be performing. Performing under the synonym The Black Madonna, Stamper has been called “one of the world's most exciting turntablists”. Collecting Mixmag’s 2016 DJ of the year award, we look forward to her set this summer.

World class DJ and producer Len Faki will be performing a set. As one of the exciting names in the current techno scene, and a resident at Berlin’s most exclusive nightclub, Berghain, Faki needs little introduction. Come see him this summer for an authentic German techno experience closer to home.

London techno DJ Ben Sims will be gracing AVA with his unique performing style. First cutting his teeth as an on demand DJ both on pirate radio and at parties throughout East London and Essex, Ben Sims has decades of experience under his belt. Now internationally recognised as a techno legend and with a well versed knowledge of all things dancehall he is sure to be a favorite at this summer's event.
