Y Not Festival 2017

Y Not Festival 2017

For one June weekend only (27th to the 30th), a small part of the Peak District becomes the site of the exclusive Y Not Festival. With origins in a barely organised group of Derbyshire young people with no house party to go to, the festival has gone on to bigger and better things. While still maintaining this carefree, laid back atmosphere its small group of organisers have got a little older and wiser in their organisation. With now an experienced perspective on what makes a great festival, they have created a fun loving country style weekend with a fully stocked bar with every type of local ale and summer cider you will need, a fine selection of food to keep you going and a showcase of some of the greatest music around. All in all Y Not Festival may be the perfect summer weekend in a beautiful scenic location that is the perfect escape for any urban dweller. For more information about the slightly out the way location and various travel options check the general information section of the website listed below.

The Music

Let’s not forget that as a music fest, the organisers put so much effort every year into finding the perfect well rounded group of acts to suit the summer country vibe. The festival hasproved itself with every year previously to be a collection of some of the most energetic, emotional and exhilarating performances on the map. The bill is packed full of what the organisers call ‘Y Notters’; acts that do not disappoint performance after performance. They promise that even if you are not coming for any acts you know and love, you will leave with new musical favourites. Top of the bill pop rock trio Two Door Cinema Club will be making waves at Y Not this June. The groups trademark sound has made them a staple in the British indie rock scene and they have been nominated for such awards as the NME Best British Band (2014). With such an uplifting summer sound and a whole back catalogue of hits we know and love, their performance should be a defining moment of the festival weekend. British electronic pioneers Clean Bandit will be bringing their signature sound to the fest. The group have risen quickly to the top since their summer anthem number 1 ‘Rather Be’ became the song of 2015. With their characteristic blend of electronic sounds, dance hall style production and classical music their style is truly genre spanning. Don’t miss out on a live performance of some of the biggest tracks of the last few years. English singer songwriter Jake Bugg also will be performing. The 23 year old from Nottingham has wowed critics and audiences alike since he came on the scene with his old school vocals and unlikely lyrical wisdom. With classics in his back pocket like the folk rock sounding ‘Lightning Bolt’ his well-honed live sets rarely disappoint. With a new release expected this year The Vaccines are returning to the spotlight this summer at Y Not. With an invigorating British rock sound the group stormed the scene with their first release ‘What Did You Expect from the Vaccines’ charting at number 1 in the UK on release. Since then they have sold over 1 million records globally. We are excited for their performance this June in what we expect will be a combination of crowd favourites and new album material. Unlikely eighties survivors The Happy Mondays are back and ready to satisfy parents and young generations alike. As one of the few bands that built the acid house music scene, a precursor to contemporary rave culture, their importance to music in this country is undeniable. Expect bass, classic beats and a atmosphere that might flash your dad back to times gone by.
