Britain is one of the most prolific drug taking nations on earth yet the booming drug trade is shrouded in myth and confusion. How did we get here and what does our reliance on the drug trade say about us as a nation?



We will set off on a journey into Britain's drug trade to meet the heroin users who shoplift meat to fund their habits to the kids using ketamine as a modern form of heroin; the young street hustlers and violent drug barons; and the undercover cops whose job it is to stem an underground economy that has gone from strength to strength since prohibition began 100 years ago. This will be the chance to discover the truth behind the smokescreen created by politicians and media for who the drugs problem is a costly, yet inconvenient bugbear.



You will learn about the history of the drug trade, where drugs come from and how they get from the farm yard or factory to the noses and veins of drug users from Luton to Liverpool. I will reveal how drugs intersect with the criminal world and explain the hidden harms of both taking drugs and the laws which prohibit them.



Max Daly is a London-based freelance journalist and documentary producer specialising in drugs, crime and social issues. He writes a regular myth-busting column about the illegal drug world for VICE called Narcomania. He has co-authored a book about the UK drug trade, also called Narcomania.



Investigations include journeys into the world of young people being exploited to sell drugs, the latest trends in drug use, why the tabloids hype drug use and corrupt police officers.
