The Great Escape

The festival season is fast approaching and we all know what that means, grey clouds, torrential rain, and cursing under your breath whilst trying to pitch the ruddy tent. It also means great atmosphere, great food and great music. Who doesn’t love an overpriced quarter pounder with cheese? I know what you’re thinking. You’ve done Glastonbury and Wireless. Portaloos make you want to vomit, understandably, and just for once it would be nice to drink alcohol out of something other than a plastic cup without a dead fly chilling on the top.

Allow me to introduce The Great Escape, a three day festival taking place 14th – 16th May in the heart of Brighton - no wellies required, unless that’s your kind of thing.

South by Southwest meets Sussex

With over 350 of the most talented up and coming artists performing in over 30 locations, Simon Cowel would be rubbing his hands together. If previous line ups are anything to go by he wouldn’t be wrong either. Last year saw the likes of Ella Eyre, Clean Bandit and Gorgon City go down a storm.

 Brighton Rocks

With such a vast amount of locations to choose from including bars, clubs and halls situated all over Brighton you really do have a whole host of options. Late night rocking in a local bar with a beer in hand or foot tapping along to an acoustic performance by the sea, just one wristband can give you access to more artists than the Eurovision song contest alone. Brighton is known for its colourful beach huts and friendly atmosphere; anything goes in this City, making it the perfect location to welcome musical talent from all genres. There’s more electronic, punk rock and alternative artists than you can shake a Brighton stick of rock at, all you have to do is seek out the talent and enjoy the huge mix of sounds.

Headliners worth talking about

If that wasn’t enough to persuade you, headliners Skepta and JME are taking the stage on Saturday 16th at The Brighton Dome concert hall, with George the Poet and Kate Tempest headlining Thursday 14th. These two events will require a special ticket at an extra cost, but seeing as it’s the festivals 10th birthday this year it would almost be rude not to.

Love food?

Well of course you do. In honour of the festivals 10th birthday a pop up restaurant will be in place at The One Church on the evening of Friday 15th and the morning of Saturday 16th of May, allowing you to taste the culinary delights of emerging foodies. Salted Caramel and buttermilk ice cream anyone? I’m drooling already - sure beats a doner kebab in the middle of a field.

Be inspired

Behind great music is great talent. A delegate pass will set you back £145 but will give you access to a number of panel sessions, debates, interviews and networking parties lead by artists, managers, agents and a whole host of industry experts. If getting your foot in the door sounds good to you then this could be your perfect opportunity. TGE doesn’t just showcase fully established and globally successful bands and artists, it introduces the world to brand new ones, nurturing talented aspiring musicians with a passion to perform.

So pack your bucket and spade, you’re going on an adventure.
